Lacks spiritual depth.  Needs to reach out to the community more.

lacks spirituial depth, yet it gets 3 stars (which indicates that it's a pretty good church)?

please tell us a lot more. our readers need details: what are the sermons like in both content and delivery? what is the music like? the building itself? what do you think the first thing an outsider would notice their first time there? most importantly, how does this church fulfill-or, in your opinions, NOT fulfill--Jesus' command to love your enemies and serve others? thank you for coming by! I hope we hear more from you soon.

In reply to your questions:   Cornelia UMC is a church that places great importance on appearances.  Its Sunday Services are televised live over local cable service and re-broadcast on tape at 7:00PM Sunday evenings  so it reaches a large audience across north Georgia.  The church has a beautiful facility, many classrooms, and a large fellowship hall.  Its music program is one of the best in all of north Georgia thanks largely to two very talented men, our organist and our pianist and a 26 member choir. I have been a member of this church for 15 years.  I have served on almost every committee this church has.   I am a Sunday School teacher, a lay speaker, the delegate to the North Georga Annual Conference 4 times, so I believe I know what I am talking about.  This church has changed senior pastors 5 times in 15 years.  Our newest pastor has been here since late June so he is still in his "honeymoon" phase.  The jury is still out on the quality and quantity of his sermons.  As to the 3 star rating I gave it,  according to my math skills 3 out of 5 equals a 60% passing grade.  I do not consider that a good score.  I will repeat that this congregation lacks spiritual depth.  It is shallow, superficial, and lots of show without  Christian substance. We have many visitors who come once or twice and never come back. The "old members" often ignore or make no effort to greet visitors or new members.  We have few professions of faith or transfers of memberships.   Yet with all this said, there are a number of very dedicated Christians who attend this church but they are not necessarily  in leadership positions.   This church has great potential but is afraid to step out of its comfort zone.  One of their favorite sayings is,  "We've never done it that way before.."
