Capitol Hill Church of the Undignified was a sweet church. Above all, I appreciate the ministry and mission of the church. I didn’t actually attend the church service, but we sat down and talked to Benji, his wife, and another guy who I don’t remember what his name was. The fact that the church building is given used as a free art studio in the day demonstrates the heart of this church and the leadership of the church. The interior design was very Seattle-ish. I’m not from Seattle, but when I think of it, I think of Starbucks, Ipods, Imacs, Vegetarians and Hybrid cars. While the inside only had the coffee, I feel like it was very much a product of its culture. I also liked the fact that the church looked nothing like a church. Don’t get me wrong, I think there is something to be said about a church’s architecture, but I deeply appreciated how comfortable the setting was with a platform for a stage, multiple couches instead of pews, and big, open windows lining the sidewalk to the street. When we were talking with Benji and his wife, their son was wondering around the whole time. He couldn’t have been more than 2 years old and was doing the curious things that kids that age do. HE WAS ALOWED TO BE HIMSELF. He talked, giggled, and ran all around. I think this says something of the heart of the church. We don’t shun you, but we will allow you to be you! That is a type of church that I appreciate and want to be a part of.
