sounds like a door hanger. please tell us a lot more. our readers need details: what are the sermons like in both content and delivery? what is the music like? the building itself? what do you think the first thing an outsider would notice their first time there? most importantly, how does this church fulfill Jesus' command to love your enemies and serve others? thank you for coming by! I hope we hear more from you soon.
Check out our website for more information on the church. The website includes audio sermons, pdf's of bulletins and newsletters and other information. www.churchatlitchfieldpark.org Thanks, Dale Hopely
This church has some of the most caring and giving people I've ever known. The music ministries are exceptional and the Pastors are awesome. They care about the community as well as their own members!
For it truth, the Church at Litchfield Park, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340, was conceived of war, born of cotton, built of mud, patterned after a Mexican gambling den, and owes its existence to a deal for a hotel bar! The deal for the bar came first. The Wigwam lacking a bar and coaktail lounge -both of which were adamantly opposed by Mr. Litchfield, President of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company - was neither as attractive to guests nor as profitiable as it could have been; and its manager had been pressing vigorouly for a change of policy. Here, then, was an opportunity for a horse trade, and the Goodyear Board of Directors seized it. Mr. Litchfield could have his Church if he allowed The Wigwam to have its bar and lounge. And so the deal was struct. Ground was broken on September 10, 1939. The adobe mud dug up as the foundations were laid, was used on site to make the adobe brick for the walls. From its beginning the Church has held to a strong vision of ecumenism and service.
Thought I would make a small correction to the denomination - The Church at Litchfield Park is NOT non-denominational, but inter-denominational. The church is a member of the International Council of Community Churches whereas a non-denominational church usually does not belong to any organizations, but stands alone. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Something I first noticed when visiting this church about 7 years ago, was the beautiful spanish style of the church sanctuary and also all the wonderful stained glass windows. Besides that when I first heard the choir sing I felt at home, and thought, yes, this could be my new church home. Also, I had already been greeted by someone before I entered the church and was greeted again when I entered the pew (came to know later this couple however were also visitors - now members :D). The following Sunday I brought my husband and kids along and we've attended here since. It is now the second Senior Pastor since we became members, and we have been very satisfied with all the pastors here. They do a phenomenal job at providing a sermon that is understandable and that is somehow related to daily life events. At the traditional service there are acolytes at the 9:15 service. The acolytes are 3rd graders and older. They add a special touch to the worship experience by bringing in the light, representing Jesus.
The church has a nursery, for 0-3 year olds, Sunday School for pre-school'ers and K-5 graders. It has youth group for middle-school'ers and high-school'ers. There is a choir in the traditional services and another with band in the contemporary. A community children's choir also performs periodically. Then there are the bell choirs - very beautiful. And a community thrift store. As you can tell there are lots of opportunities to participate in things in our church. In the years I have been a member so far I have volunteered in the nursery, sunday school, vacation bible school, planning of the 2 women's retreats there have been, and currently I'm serving as the acolyte steward. In the future, when my kids are a bit older, I hope to possibly get a chance at the bells.
Hope we have gotten your curiosity up and that we'll see you at church soon.
Christa
The church strives to be "a house of prayer for all people." The congregation is full of members and visitors from varied backgrounds and former denominations. We believe that we are all God's creations and should stive to share His love with everyone--even when we are different. The music in the two traditional services along with formal liturgy compliments the Bible based sermons delivered by the pastors each week. The praise team singers and band lead the singing in the contemporary service to answer the needs of those that prefer the more modern contemporary songs. We have members that attend traditional services some weeks and contemporary on others. The same pastor preaches in all three services on a given Sunday in order to remind us even though we have multiple services we are one church. Our Missions committee strives to lead us in giving to those in need within the surrounding community as well as outside the local community. Both the Sr Pastor and Executive Pastor have a "servant's heart" in their service to the congregation and community. They encourage us to give freely of God's love as we have received it!
We have found the Church at Litchfield Park to be a truly perfect environment where we can worship God. Rev. Dale Hopley, Jr. is passionate and genuine in his sermons and he has the unique skill of applying scriptures to what we all face in our daily lifes. With his handshake as with the lessons of his messages, Rev. Hopley expresses his faith and love of the Lord. We are privileged to attend this church. Without Dale Hopley, the church would suffer a tremendous loss.
Wonderful and warm pastors, very friendly people. We've attended services twice and were very impressed with the pastors and their sermons. Very welcoming and comfortable church, the praise service rocks!!!
