I went here and the teen preacher was straight up harsh to the students attending class. Some of us were talking about an upcoming event with the church and the preacher told us to "Listen up," to what he was saying and to "Think about how God is looking at us right now for being so rude.." It was the stupidest thing. Really? I might not be a Jesus freak but I would never speak to teenagers as if they were naughty five year olds.

I agree: when it comes to speaking to teens, so many people get it wrong. Parents, teachers, preachers... it ain't easy. I think the pastor you mention may have had better success connecting with you if he spoke more about how Jesus' love and hard work transformed the people he met, rather than how God's mad at you for not saying "excuse me" after you burp. What do you think...?

It depends much on WHEN and HOW in the class or service you were talking with each other.   If you were talking at the wrong time about the "event" --- or as "5 year olds"  would do it -- then I can see why he might have been upset.  However, he should have handled it perhaps with a little more finesse.

Teens who want to be treated as adults --- must act as adults.  ;>)
